Dirty Bones Cocktail Bar Theme Night

So our first theme night was Beth's choice - we've been eating way less meat and we'd seen that Dirty Bones (a restaurant/cocktail bar we love in London) had a new sister brand, Dirty Vegan, who were doing DIY kits (Get Dirty At Home) - ours was an intro offer but now they're priced from £13 depending on what you get. Unfortunately, this doesn't really help people not living in London but you can definitely recreate it.

Dress code: Dressy casual (whatever you'd wear to a cocktail bar).

Food:

  • Beth made buffalo cauliflower wings in the air fryer, but you could switch it up for regular chicken wings if you're not feeling the vegan stuff.

  • Whatever kind of burger you want. If vegan, try to find Beyond Meat (though there's so many good brands now - vegan doesn't have to mean bean burgers!) - we had vegan chilli cheeseburgers, which had relish, red onions, gherkin, jalapenos and fake cheese (imo no cheese can make up for real cheese, but it was pretty good).

  • Chips, the french fry kind of style.

  • We didn't eat the dessert as we were full after this, but they sent us some raw vegan cookie dough (it wasn't great). So if you want dessert, just pick up whatever you want.

Drinks:

As part of the kit they sent us some espresso martini mix (my fave cocktail) so we had these, and I made up some regular mojitos and spiced rum mojitos, as we had rum leftover from Christmas. Mojitos are my second favourite cocktail, and other than the white rum they basically cost nothing to recreate - the only other things you need are lime, mint, sugar and soda water. For the spiced rum you add all of the above in, plus a slice of ginger... so good!

The room and the music:

It was basically about getting the room dimly lit, like you'd find it in a cocktail bar. So, Beth scattered all of our candles around the room, and had our lamp on the dimmest setting. Our table was set up with a candle in the middle and some flowers, and we have a neon flamingo (called Felicia - we love her) that we bought ages ago in Sainsbury's for £7 who gives off that cocktail bar vibe, so she was sat on the table with us too. That was literally it - so simple, but looked so cute. Dirty Bones have a selection of their own playlists on Spotify too, to help people recreate their settings at home.
